Lately, many of my Gtalk contacts have asked me – “Whats with your status? GO M.A.D http://makeadiff.in”!

And here is the answer!

A few weeks ago, people from this NGO M.A.D (Make a Difference) came to our office campus. The initial response from the junta at Oracle was great. But as the time for inductions approached, many of them backed out. Some were not sure and others were lazy. Anyway i decided to turn up for inductions because there was something about this NGO that makes it different from others. Its not just about giving some money, clothes or books to some kids. Not just about organizing a charity event like a walkaton or some dance function. Inductions went well and so did the training session after that.

For those of you who are still wondering what M.A.D is, it is an organisation that is trying to bridge the gap between the society and underprivileged kids who have been deprived of basic education by educating them with how to survive with the knowledge of English and computers! They started a couple of years back and are now present in Cochin, Pune, Delhi, Mumbai, Mangalore, Bangalore, Trivandrum, Goa, Hyderabad, Nagpur and Chennai with more than 800 volunteers. Most of the volunteers are either college student or youths working in MNCs with enthusiasm and determination to make the difference at the root level of the society!

And now here i am three days later, going through the syllabus and anxiously waiting to attend my first class as a teacher for M.A.D! Its going to be crazy, total mayhem, chaos prevailing in the whole class, kids running around, shouting at me, might even hate me to the extent that they wanna to kill me, still there is this thrill about it – every minute of it is going to be an experience of a lifetime. The responsibility that comes along, the hope to make a difference and the excitement is something that can come only if you go MAD!

Yesterday only I was reading an article in a daily newspaper about the advent of camera, technology and the fast pace at which the content is being shared on the flickr/YouTube/Facebook. Then it struck me – how about a camera that has WiFi Technology in it.

Sharing content on any social website would be so easy then.

1. Just click a photo
2. Connect to a Wifi Network
3. Upload.

First thing i did today after getting to office was to check out if there is any camera like this under production. I found this Cannon model that is capable of interacting with other WiFi devices and lets you share/print. It wont take long until the my dream gadget becomes reality. 6 months or 1 year or just a few weeks.. You never know.

Thanks to pace at which the technology in growing faster and better, all our dream gadgets are becoming reality. Sit at your workplace in your office and keep an eye on whats turning at your house. A mobile that you can use to control each and every electronic item at your house. Twit or find out whats happening in your facebook world by just touching that small screen on your mobile. Lost your way? Just check out the way from the gps device you have got. On a secret mission? carry one of those James Bond types watch.

It wont be long either when I could be flying to office or even become invisible. Sigh!

TGIF

My first month at Oracle comes to an end with a ‘what they call a TGIF’ and also the most awaited day of everyone’s life, the first pay day. The journey till now had been interesting, comfortable and pretty unique. My work is on business intelligence. Includes some of data warehouse knowledge (which i literally hated back in my last semester at college) but still i like it. Its something new and i seem to understand and grasp the concepts. Lets see how it shapes out when i start ‘proper work’.
College friends, nice roommates, pool, internet, movie every weekend, interesting work and family. What else a corporate person wants?
Kinda enjoy this whole new corporate life thing!

Flashback – 4 years at NIT Trichy

Fours years back in the last week of July, 2005 some 500 odd students joined NIT Trichy and I was one of them. A bit scared, a bit curious and a lot hopeful.. I still remember the day i got CSE ( slided from Civil to CSE) and got inducted to rota. That day changed my life. It gave me a platform to think, to perform and to learn. A lot of things came along – Delta, Pragyan, Designing, Thespi, Festember.., etc. And now its all over. NIT Trichy is over for me. Or isnt it? These 4 years had been a journey of fun, thrill, experience, of friendship and of a very stupid person who found some really interesting people that made an imapct in his life, in his heart.

Few places that will always stay somewhere close to my heart

Sun lab, #100 ememerald, #321 jade, #10 agate, octa, e section class room in clc, juicy, ad block….

I look back now and i realize the amount of hatredness for trichy seem to melt down.. People say you dont miss the place, you will miss the people. Really? People and place completes it. Completes NIT Trichy. The four years of hard life, away from home and a village that offered us nothing but pain. We came closer, we supported each other, we adapted ourselved accordingly. According to the people around us. And learnt and lived and enjoyed. Now is it really the people or both?

I look back and miss a lot of those special occasions that gave me a reason to laugh, to enjoy, to be happy, to cry, to get angry.. The time spent in #10 agate, e section classes and outings, those late nights in sun lab, the day vinayak’s bed broke, the day when i joined delta, the day i got lehman intern, the birthdays, the dinner trip to city, the day we went to watch shivaji at a local theatre, the piles’, the wing treats, the wing birthdays, the time spent teasing dado, the time getting shouted at by dado, the time spent on the terrace, the time spent in #100 emerald, the good mornings, the everyday trip to city and many many more!

Only when you sit on your office desk wondering or rather reading a data warehousing book or some other crappy really boring very subjective course book or just say scrolling down every now and then, you realise the meaning of writer’s crap!

The word has derived from ‘writer’s cramp’.

Writer’s crap refers to a stage when one is only capable of writing utter crap.
